News: Fixed!

I was messing around with facebook integration awhile back, when I actually had spare time on my hands, probably shortly before the launch of Starcraft 2... Well long story short, Gripes entry is fixed.

Seems like I stopped posting gripes around the same time that I got a new job, and moved... Busy Mike is busy. Well, was busy. I've been in need of a project lately, so it might be time to do some site upgrades. Including some FB integration for gripes and redoing the comments and notifications pages.

Just wanted to change the news. I've been posting gripes occasionally - and we've had some guest gripes come in. Site's still going.j

Changed some more visuals around the site, and you now get notices whenever someone rates or comments on your gripe.

When someone comments on your gripe, it will now display a notice in your login screen. (SECRET) Eventually this will also happen when someone rates your gripe.

Made a few graphical tweaks to the site because it looked dated to me. If it doesn't look right to you, clear out your offline web cache and make sure you're using ANYTHING BUT Microsoft Internet Explorer.
August 11, 2008"wa" ?DuneBug

someone with the username 'wa' posted a gripe 'wa'. If this was you and you encountered a bug, let me know. Otherwise i'm just going to write it off as a spambot.

the design is looking pretty good I must say. I got the quotes page working, put the news in its own box. I'm also starting to work on the ninja page a little bit. The links page I might get rid of.

You might notice, I've changed things around. Hopefully this will make the site prettier as well as easier to navigate. And, as an added bonus, way easier for me to work on.

I was having all those problems with the dates before... Well I fixed those. That's about all I have to say.

Yeah, so... I'm going to switch mike.delauter.net to point to the news page, that'll be my index page... and it will have a random quote at the top of the page. And the best part will be that we all get to submit the quotes!

Of course there'll only be like 5 submitted cuz you all suck. That will take some of the fun away, but that's the plan and im sticking to it.

Before I write a gripe about NOBODY but me actually writing gripes, I've decided to make a news article. Yes that's right, you TOO can post a gripe. All you have to do is register/login which takes a total of two seconds. Remember your login info cuz its caps sensitive.

I thought I had made this clear before, but apparently not. Still, I don't have much hope for the future. And if you do write a gripe, you'll need to use basic HTML tags. But I think you're all pretty smart people and can figure these things out.

Whoo! I fixed the main bugs with the site. As I mentioned... The server upgraded it's version of PHP and changed some of the configurations around. I also think I fixed a problem I've had since a long damn time ago. I am quite happy about that.

Fixed the login stuff so it's not buggy anymore. So, now everyone can post their own gripes, only one per day though. Did some work to make Past Gripes more efficient. Things to do: Put scroll buttons on old gripes. Add navbar to member's only pages.

You can now create your own username, login with that username/password, and post a gripe of your very own. I need to make it display the author name on the gripes page... But i have to put that off for awhile since I'll be away from the computer. The login interface isn't very good though, it's sort of hard to navigate once you get away from main.php
June 27, 2007This Site best viewed with Mozilla FirefoxDuneBug

Since I had redone my site layout i'd forgotten to test the style sheets using IE.

IE is like that wayward kid in highschool who wanted to be different so did something stupid like -walking backwards through the hallway-. Because non-comformity is king. This is starting to sound like a gripe.

Anyway I looked up some techniques to make IE actually work with the same stylesheets that EVERY other browser works with, so hopefully if you view the site in IE it will look normal. Let me know if you think you have a problem. I believe 70% of my traffic is actually firefox even though FF's marketshare is 13%, so I guess I have smart friends.

Also, I uploaded ANM:3 finally, as i found the box it was in.
June 20, 2007Basic NewsDuneBug

Obviously, I created a news page for the site.. Given all the recent updates and features I've added - I think a news page is actually somewhat warranted. It'll also be the default starting page for the site, since there are other things I've been putting up on here besides just gripes. Here's a small list of things I'm working on:
  1. For awhile, I've wanted to learn how PHP_Sessions worked to store user information, I originally thought it would be pretty difficult, but things have gotten a lot easier since I finished my degree (as opposed to sophomore year of college) and after integrating my site with a MySQL database turned out to be a huge gigantic record-breaking piece of cake (compared to standard file I/O) I decided I'd give it a shot. It took me awhile to find a decent tutorial that actually explained how sessions worked instead of just how to use them. (if you EVER want to be a good programmer you need to know a decent amount about how stuff works, not just the syntax).
  2. The sessions thing allowed me to create a login, and track user information similar to pretty much how every other place with a login does it. The end result is I plan to put up a gripes page where anyone with a membership can post a gripe, although only one gripe can be posted per day for the whole group. I of course, will still be able to post gripes whenever I want. You'll have to register your username but that only takes 2 seconds and I don't require any personal info, but I might grab IP's/ set cookies to stop jerkoffs.
  3. I uploaded ANM-3 And the ANM-Outtakes to Google Video last night. I haven't made the outtakes public yet because I want to let people view the other videos first, in case they haven't already. I'll be adding a link to ANM-3 and possibly the bloopers from HERE first, before i make them searchable on google video.
  4. I've also been working on some sort of stylesheet/SSI solution so that I don't need to use frames for my site. I've always used frames before but I read some stuff on the web about how they make your site less facilitating towards search-engine traffic.
That's about it for now... Given the rather low traffic of the comments section lately I don't really expect there to be a rush on any of my new content. But, maybe people will get more into it over time. Rome wasn't built in a day, after all. Also someone remind me to put in a rating system... As long as we have user-created gripes we need to have a rating system.
